5minutehorror.com presents… EVIL IN CINEMA

Howdy gang!! What’s the deal with bad guys, girls, corporations, governments and scientists in movies?

The “evil” in cinema is almost always black. Bad guys are bad. You see ‘em coming a mile away. Sexy, sinister bitches are so transparent in their evil. I’m amazed the good guys don’t notice it.

“Evil” has no shading now-a-days. Characters are bad … their motives are bad … their actions bad.

What I love in a bad character is shades of evil … The Richard Gere film with Edward Norton, Primal Fear. Norton’s reveal of evil is brilliant! He starts out a victim and moves ________ total manipulator of the events in the film. The reveal was so cool; it caught the audience by surprise. (sly grin)

Hannibal The Cannibal is classic cinema evil. He’s slick, educated, charming and we meet him engaging FBI agent Sterling in a cat and mouse game. He loves the game. Likes the girl. You see the attraction fight off. You don’t see the terror! Dr. Lector is bound and gagged tight … but _____ _____ and for how long? When the evil escapes, it’s horrific. But what do we do at the end of the film? We chuckle at his witty remark “I’m having an old friend for dinner” (ha ha!!). He makes us laugh and shit in our pants. Evil in many colors. A bad guy who can be a good guy? But, he’s evil.

Freddy, Jason, Mike Meyers and leather face are evil figures, but have no shading, they’re not interesting to watch over a hundred and twenty minutes. Evil figures, not evil!!
